Apollo Victoria Theatre

Originally known as the New Victoria Cinema when it opened as a state-of-the-art cinema and variety theatre in 1929, the Apollo Victoria is a stunning Art Deco style theatre in the heart of the bustling Victoria district. Since the 1980s it has hosted numerous popular musicals including Fiddler on the Roof, The Sound of Music, and Starlight Express, which ran for almost two decades, and has been home to hit musical Wicked since 2006.

We recently designed and installed the new male and female washrooms located on both the stalls and circle levels. It was vital that the new washrooms would be able to withstand the high levels of traffic at the theatre each week, yet be stylish and complement the rest of the theatre’s nautical themed interior and original Art Deco style.

Our Aria 19mm laminate faced toilet cubicles, lipped with matching laminate, were the perfect solution, providing the ideal balance of durability and aesthetic appeal. Specified in a warm neutral shade, the cubicles were finished with designer d line stainless steel locks and a bespoke powder-coated channel headrail.

Our half height Concerto integrated duct panel system was installed behind the WCs to ensure ease of access for any future maintenance. Both the Concerto panels and under vanity unit panels were finished in laminate in the same shade as the cubicles to bring the design together.

For the vanity units, which feature integral towel drops, we manufactured bespoke units using Hanex, a high performance premium acrylic solid surface material, which can be cut, shaped and moulded to any shape. Resistant to moisture, pollutants and bacteria, Hanex is a hygienic material that is easy to clean and maintain – making it the ideal choice for a busy theatre like the Apollo Victoria.
