A tough balancing act

Innovative new materials, which offer exceptional durability together with design versatility, have been a game-changer for projects demanding exacting aesthetic and performance standards. Here we look at three materials which all pack a punch when it comes to delivering the perfect balance of form and function.

Third Space - Luminoso Glass Shower cubicles

Glass

Glass offers a huge degree of design versatility for washrooms and changing areas. The advances in the manufacture of specially toughened glass in particular means it can be used throughout a washroom including for lockers, duct panels, vanities and cubicles. Specially toughened glass provides a highly durable finish that is easy to clean and maintain, providing peace of mind for clients and facilities managers alike.

Textured glass, stainless steel trims, metal mesh inserts and acid etching glass are just a few of the design variations available to architects looking for that bespoke touch when specifying glass. And with the option to back-paint glass to virtually any colour or incorporate digitally screen printed designs too it’s never been easier to create a truly unique finish.

Fenix NTM ®

An innovative acrylic resin surface material manufactured by Italian manufacturer Arpa Industriale using the latest nanotechnology, FENIX NTM is ideal for commercial washrooms. Not only is it anti-fingerprint, hydro repellent and resistant to scratches and abrasion, it is also thermally self-healing and light fast so it won’t fade over time. It is also easy to clean, mould resistant and boasts enhanced anti-bacterial properties.

As well as being highly durable for a long-lasting, low maintenance finish, what makes FENIX stand out is its fashionable super matt appearance and soft touch. It’s also available in a wide choice of colours, our Alto FENIX toilet cubicles are available to specify in 15 different shades, and is the perfect way to add a touch of luxury to your washroom.

Solid surface Corian®

Man-made solid surface materials like Corian have all grown in popularity in recent years and are ideal for vanities and duct panelling as they can be cut, bent and joined to produce a seamless smooth finish. Solid surface materials are easy to clean and durable enough to withstand the rigours of a high traffic environment, while the seamless joins create a hygienic surface that prevents bacteria and mould from getting a foothold.

By their nature, the colour and pattern runs all the way through solid surface materials which means they can moulded into virtually any shape. Corian is also available in a huge array of attractive colours and textures, from bright, eye-catching colours to subtler tones intended to mimic the look of natural stone – so there’s something for every project.
