Superloos: a step in the right direction for gender neutral washrooms

At Washroom Washroom, we’re proud to be at the forefront of the latest washroom trends, which reflect wider shifts in the public’s consciousness. Over the past few years we’ve seen an increased demand for inclusive washrooms in public spaces across a number of sectors, including commercial and leisure.

In particular, more and more clients are asking us to install gender neutral washrooms alongside standard male, female, unisex and disabled facilities. Gender neutral washrooms are suitable for all, and as a result they’re very useful in providing a safe option for transgender users. Providing such facilities also takes away the decision of which washroom to go in – which can create an uncomfortable situation for transgender people, due to discrimination.

One of the key ways we’re able to respond to the demand for gender neutral washrooms is through the installation of superloos.

But what are superloos, and why do they offer a solution?

A superloo is a self-contained toilet cubicle including a toilet, vanity unit and hand drying facilities. The all-in-one nature of this washroom layout means that space is saved, and they tend to have more of an aesthetic appeal than the classic separate male and female washroom set up.

Superloos can also offer a more hygienic washroom solution – ideal for high traffic areas such as offices and gyms – due to being self-contained, with all facilities in one cubicle. They can be made even more hygienic with the use of FENIX NTM® toilet cubicles, with the material boasting anti-bacterial properties.

As well as being more inclusive, gender neutral facilities also tend to be finished with full height cubicle doors, such as our Alto toilet cubicle, ensuring complete privacy too.
