Wymondham Police Station

Wymondham Police and Investigation Centre (PIC), near Norwich in Norfolk, is a state-of-the-art centre built as part of a £1.2 million development of Norfolk and Suffolk’s policing facilities. Designed to provide efficient and cost-effective custody facilities for detainee handling and investigations, Wymondham is equipped with medical examination rooms, interview rooms and cells. PICs enable specialist police officers, staff and investigators to question suspects and hold them in custody under one roof.

It was essential that the centre’s facilities would be durable enough to withstand the rigours of a high traffic environment. With durability and safety key considerations when specifying materials for this project, solid grade laminate and solid surface Corian both fitted the bill perfectly.

We specified solid surface Corian for the cell benches, the main charge and reception desks and worktops for all rooms. As well as being hardwearing and built to last, Corian is also non-porous, making it a safe and hygienic material which is easy-to-clean – ideal for a custody setting.

Highly durable solid grade laminate (SGL) was perfect for the new washrooms and accessible disabled facilities as it is highly resistant to vandalism and totally impervious to water. The solid construction of SGL removes the need for independent edging which could come off, looking unsightly over time. As well as being hygienic and easy-to-clean, it’s also available in a range of different colours with a calming shade of blue specified for this project.

We installed our Concerto integrated duct panelling system to conceal unsightly services and offer easy access for future maintenance, whether planned or reactive. Manufactured from SGL, the Concerto panels were finished in pale blue for the WCs and vibrant lime green behind the urinals, adding to the colourful washroom space.

For the shower and changing area we installed our solid grade laminate Mezzo cubicles with white division panels and pale blue cubicle doors to match the toilet cubicles. Each spacious cubicle includes a changing area with freestanding bench and an enclosed glass shower cubicle.
