London-based gym chain Third Space has six individually-designed health clubs which all combine training, spa, medical and nutrition facilities under one roof. Each club boasts its own unique interior design, though all are finished to the same high quality with the changing rooms in particular modelled on a boutique hotel style rather than a typical gym.

Third Space Islington is the latest club in the chain to open and is the fourth where we’ve delivered washroom and changing room fit-outs. As well as the 7,000 square foot flexible training space, 20m infinity pool and specialist hot yoga studio, the club also includes for the first time, ‘Little Space’ – a specially designed family-friendly gym area for children separate to the adult gym space. With this in mind, creating washrooms and changing areas with facilities suitable for children, while remaining in-keeping with the Third Space style, was a key requirement of the brief on this project.

Working closely with the client, we created a bespoke family changing area with large unisex changing cubicles plus integral benching which provides plenty of space for families to change in private. We designed the white flush fascia changing cubicle doors with a bespoke over-panel to create floor-to-ceiling coverage, making each cubicle more like a private room. The all-white family changing cubicles are finished with minimalist black signage plus a black vertical interface to hide the hinges and fixings between the cubicle doors and partitions as well as creating a distinct edge to each cubicle.

In the washrooms, we installed our highly-engineered Marcato toilet cubicles which are designed with a flush fronted and rebated finish to ensure division panels meet edge to edge for complete privacy. For younger users, the client specified our fun and colourful Fruit toilet cubicles, with reduced height doors to create a less intimidating space for young children. The doors were manufactured from hardwearing solid grade laminate in a bright blue colour with contrasting pale green pilasters and feature a curved top edge design.

Our popular Luminoso glass shower cubicles were installed in both the family changing area and separate male and female facilities. Featuring 10mm clear float toughened glass doors, pilasters and division panels each with 100 per cent white screen print to the reverse, and stainless steel pedestal legs and headrail, Luminoso glass shower cubicles create a pleasing uniform façade for a more polished overall appearance. The range is available in a wide range of different colours, with a deep blue colour used for this project.
