One Kingsway, which stands at the corner where Aldwych and Kingsway meet, is a mixed-use building comprising retail units in the basement and ground floors, eight floors of Grade A office space and residential apartments at the top. The building was designed by Trehearne & Norman after the First World War and it still boasts its attractive original Portland Stone 1920s façade today.

During a recent refurbishment of the building, we installed new washrooms on level three as well as the new shower and changing area with 11 separate shower cubicles for office staff use. It’s part of a steadily growing trend to provide office staff with high-end shower and changing facilities more akin to those seen in a luxury leisure centre or health club and, with its stylish monochromatic scheme, this project is no exception.

The large shower cubicles, which each include a shower unit behind a glass screen and a separate dry changing area, feature our Luminoso glass shower cubicle doors. Manufactured from 10 mm clear float toughened glass with 100% white screenprint to the reverse of each panel, the attractive white, near opaque finish provides the perfect contrast for the black ironmongery of the pull handles, locks and hinges. We manufactured each cubicle door with minimal floor clearance, which together with the opaque finish of the doors, provides users with the level of privacy required for a workplace facility.

We also created the bespoke vanity units which feature storage cupboards in a dark wood veneer with brass pull handles, set underneath a white solid surface top with inset storage for hairdryers to keep the space neat and tidy. One of the stand-out features of the vanities are the large circular mirrors which are affixed to both the vanity unit tops and ceiling with a brass pole to match the brass handles underneath.

Another aspect of the project was the washroom facilities within the changing area. Here we installed our full height Alto toilet cubicle doors in grey high pressure laminate complete with brass handles and locks to match the brass elements of the shower area for consistency.
