Imperial College London is a world top ten university with an international reputation for excellence in teaching and research. Founded over a century ago, it now spreads out across nine campuses, including the new White City Campus research facility close to Shepherd’s Bush. Researchers based at the new campus will focus on the development of new medical technologies to help detect diseases like cancer as well as research into low emission sources of energy.

The White City Campus development, which opened to students at the start of the 2018 academic year, has been delivered by ISG together with architects Sheppard Robson. We were proud to work with ISG to deliver new male and female washroom facilities on all six levels of Building C.

The washrooms feature our highly engineered, full height Marcato toilet cubicles. With a flush fronted and rebated finish, the division panels and doors meet edge to edge for maximum privacy while the full height cubicle doors are designed with minimal floor clearance for increased privacy.

Manufactured from 20mm flush fascia Formica high pressure laminate, the toilet cubicles are hardwearing, hygienic and easy to maintain, providing a high specification yet durable finish, which is perfect for a busy college environment.

Formica is available in a wide range of colours and finishes and two complementing shades from its vibrant Plus Colour collection were used on this project to create the stylish new washrooms. ‘Maui’, a light sky blue, was specified for the cubicle doors and pilasters to create a seamless finish, while the soft grey ‘Folkstone’ colour was used as a contrast for the interior division panels. The colourful cubicles, combined with satin finish stainless steel accessories including DDA compliant handrails for disabled facilities, create a contemporary design which is as aesthetically appealing as it is durable.

We installed our Concerto integrated duct panelling system in each cubicle, manufactured in, in the same ‘Maui’ blue shade of Formica high pressure laminate to match the toilet cubicle doors. The full height Concerto duct panels conceal unsightly pipework behind the WCs while providing a smooth surface which is easy to clean and maintain.

We also designed, manufactured and installed Arpeggio Corian vanity units in a crisp white to complement the blue toilet cubicles. The solid surface nature of Corian means it can be moulded into any shape and the colour will run all the way through. For this project, we used one complete piece of Corian, with recessed sinks to create an attractive seamless finish. With no visible joins, Corian ensures there’s nowhere for bacteria to take hold for the ultimate hygienic finish.
